Discover the FestivalThe Esala Perahera is one of the oldest and grandest of all Buddhist festivals in Sri Lanka, featuring elegant costumes, traditional dancing, and beautifully decorated elephants.
Held annually in July or August in the city of Kandy, the festival pays homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, which is housed at the Temple of the Tooth.
This magnificent procession consists of five separate peraheras from four Hindu temples and the Temple of the Tooth, which are conducted on five consecutive nights.
